Casa Firenzi is running the site for University of Atlantia!

  • Administrative group: Casa Firenzi Household, with permission to hold the event in the lands of the Canton of Elvegast, within the Barony of Windmasters Hill. The household is managing the logistics of renting the facility, and the canton and barony are pitching in to help. The university staff, as always, is doing all the work to manage the classes, website, and participant support.

NOTE: There will be no instructor review period. Instead, if you have your classes submitted prior to May 15th they will be included on the preliminary schedule. Classes may continue to be added up until the due day of May 24.

This is a bit unusual in that a household is hosting the event. See this page on the University website:  https://university.atlantia.sca.org/host.php   and make note “You do not have to be an official group in Atlantia to host a University. A group of individuals or a household may bid for a University session.”

The Kingdom Seneschal is serving as the Seneschal on record for this event. Similarly, the Kingdom Exchequer is serving as the event’s exchequer and the financial tasks are run through the kingdom’s accounts.

We chose to run it this way only because we ran up against deadlines with no other bids working in the required timeline. We did not have time to wait for the appropriate business meetings of local groups. The event site, the Ridge Road Baptist Church, has been gracious to quickly accept our tight turnaround deadlines and approve our proposal in time to meet our kingdom’s requirements. In the future, the church may be open to parterning on other events directly with our local barony or cantons. Sincere thanks to the Kingdom Bid Committee, the Kingdom Seneschal, and the University Chancellor for being available for very quick communications and approvals.

“Casa Firenzi” is the household Sophia and Manus use to give structure to their Commedia dell’ Arte troupe, i Firenzi.  This (fictional) household is led by the Marchesa and Marchese Firenzi in 1580 Florence who serve as patrons to a performing troupe that doesn’t at all ever work as spies collecting information about competing families in the cutthroat Italian Renaissance business world. Driving Directions from highway I95:

1. From I‑95, take Exit 81 to merge onto I‑40 West toward Raleigh

This is the primary interstate connection into the Raleigh metro area from I‑95.

2. Continue on I‑40 West for approximately 28–30 miles

You will pass exits for Garner and then enter the Raleigh beltline area.

3. Take Exit 289 for Wade Avenue toward I‑440/US‑1 North

Wade Avenue is the standard feeder into west Raleigh and the Ridge Road area.

4. Continue on Wade Avenue for about 3 miles

Stay on Wade Avenue until you reach the Ridge Road exit.

5. Take the exit for Ridge Road

This is a right‑hand exit.

6. Turn right onto Ridge Road

You will now be heading north on Ridge Road.

7. Continue approximately 0.7 miles to the destination

2011 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 will be on your right.

 

Service animals only.

No ground fires. Fires for making art is currently not allowed but being explored as an exception to a rule with the site managers. Stand by for more information on this issue.
Tents are allowed on church lawn. We may be setting up some tents on the lawn for classrooms.
Most but not all classrooms are ADA compliant.
The church does not have a kitchen, but two small kitchenettes are available.
University of Atlantia hosts classes on topics within the scope of SCA mission: World history from before 1600CE.
Anyone can submit a proposal to teach classes. Anyone can attend and take classes.
